Vancouver Goldeneyes defeat Seattle Torrent 4-1, Seattle eliminated from playoff contention

The Vancouver Goldeneyes ended the Seattle Torrent’s run for a spot in the playoffs Tuesday night (April 14) after defeating them 4-1.

With elimination from playoff contention on the line for both teams on Tuesday night, the Goldeneyes came out of the box firing. Sarah Nurse tipped in Claire Thompson’s shot from the high slot just 2:18 into the first period.

Anna Meixner and Madison Samoskevich both scored their first goals as Goldeneyes, 33 seconds apart. This was also Samoskevich’s first PWHL goal.

Samoskevich said, “I’m so happy that I got to [score my first goal] here in this rink in front of this fan base. It’s something that I’ll never forget. I think with the group that we have and the support that I have from my teammates, they make [playing different roles at a professional level] really easy for me. I can go to anyone on this team and ask for advice and they’ll be there supporting me.”

Hannah Miller secured her 50th career point, scoring just under seven minutes into the second period.

Vancouver goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer saved 29 of 30 shots on net.

Mikyla Grant-Mentis scored the lone goal for the Torrent. Goalie Corinne Schroeder saved 11 of 15 shots in the 31 minutes she played. Carly Jackson made their season debut with the Torrent and they saved all nine shots on goal.

“Seattle will have three games to accumulate ‘draft order points’ post-playoff elimination, more than any other team. In the PWHL’s ‘Gold Plan’, the non-playoff team that accumulates the most draft order points will earn the first overall pick in the 2026 PWHL Entry Draft,” noted a PWHL news release April 15. “All of Seattle’s remaining games are at home, with three opportunities for points to earn the first overall pick in the PWHL Draft. Vancouver will need another win to keep their playoff hopes alive, pending results in Toronto and Ottawa’s games against New York, before returning home for two final games at Pacific Coliseum.”

The Goldeneyes hosted the Torrent at the Pacific Coliseum in front of 10,094 fans.

Vancouver’s Izzy Daniel did not return to the game after a puck hit her in the side of the head during the second period. Gabby Rosenthal was not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game as she is listed day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Vancouver and Seattle will face off again on Saturday (April 18) at Climate Pledge Arena. The Goldeneyes are currently in 7th place with 30 points and the Torrent are in 8th place with 26 points.
