Time is running out for an orphaned bear cub in Maple Ridge, as members of the Albion neighbourhood watch helplessly.
Ellie Lamb has posted in social media, that if people see the cub, they should immediately call the RAPP Line to report her location at 1-877-952-7277 or #7277 on TELUS, so that the Conservation Officers Service can pick the cub up. They can also at Critter Care Wildlife Society 604-530-2064 extension 3.
“This tiny cub is only six pounds and has been alone for 48 hours. She is frightened, exhausted, and urgently needs help,” said Lamb.
“Thank you for helping get her to safety. Her time is running out,” said Lamb in a post on Tuesday, April 15.
The little bear has now been alone for almost three days.
Lamb noted the Critter Care Wildlife Society in Langley, is ready to take her into their shelter. But they need authorization from Conservation Officers to pick her up.
The Maple Ridge Black Bear Society has had a representative looking for the cub on site.
“Please do not approach, do not feed or attempt to pick the cub up, and keep dogs leashed and away from the cub if possible,” they advise.
If the cub goes to Critter Care, it will be raised with other bears until next summer, when it will be released back into the wilderness.
