This weekend will be the last chance to support local community groups by purchasing tickets for the upcoming Rotary Duck Race.
The race, put on by the Meadow Ridge Rotary Club, takes place on Sunday, Aug. 10, and will see hundreds of yellow rubber ducks let loose along the Alouette River in Maple Ridge Park.
First duck across the finish line will net the purchaser $15,000, and the next four will also win prizes.
The goal of the event is to raise $110,000 for local youth and senior organizations across Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.
Tickets are $10 per duck.
Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Katzie Seniors Network will be selling ducks at the Haney Farmers Market from noon until 2 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 1.
The Seniors Network is one of many local organizations selling tickets, who get to keep $8 from every ticket sold for their group.
Ticket sales will go towards their signature events, they said, advocating for local needs of seniors in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.
Last year, the First Haney Scouts sold $12,900 work of ducks, and the First Pitt Meadows Scouts $12,600. They were able to keep 80 per cent of that. There were 29 youth and seniors groups that benefited.
The Duck Race will be held at Maple Ridge Park on Sunday, Aug. 9. The race is at 1 p.m., but there will be events at the park starting at 11 a.m.
Second prize is a shopping spree at Mark’s worth $2,400; third is 10 rounds of golf and five golf carts at Meadow Gardens Golf Course valued at $1,365; fourth prize is $1,000 from Centra Lawyers LLP; and fifth is a 65″ Samsung television from Haney Appliance & Sound valued at $1,000.
