A stop-work order has been issued by the City of White Rock at the former Boathouse restaurant on Marine Drive.
Built in 1990, the former Boathouse closed its doors at its waterfront White Rock location on Sept. 21, 2025, but on Wednesday (July 29), there were reportedly workers inside demolishing the interior of the former seafood restaurant, known for its rooftop patio and ocean views.
A social media post in a community group showed a photo of people inside the Marine Drive facility, apparently preparing for something new.
“Looks like the Boathouse has been leased, lots of demolition inside today,” the post said. “Wondering who the next owner might be? We dearly need another type of cuisine on the waterfront to mix it up a bit!”
When the Peace Arch News went to investigate Wednesday afternoon (July 29), a stop-work order issued by the city was on the door, dated the same day.
However, the City of White Rock “does not release information relating to private ownership, tenancy, lease arrangements, or other third-party business information,” an email from the city shared.
The city is also “unable to comment on individual enforcement matters” regarding the stop-work order.
BC Assessment show no sales history for the past three years, with the site valued at $9,769,000 as of July 1, 2025 (land valued at $3,617,000, and building(s) at $6,152,000).
Land title records show the site — with a net leasable area of 12,836 square feet — under the ownership of Sami Jay Holdings Inc. as the reporting body. Three people are listed as interest holders with that reporting body: Jane Elizabeth Jamieson, Sarah Jane Jamieson, and Robert Michael Jamieson, whose principle residences are listed as being in Surrey and Vancouver.
A chain that started in 1981 in Coal Harbour, The Boathouse used to operate several locations in the Lower Mainland; the chain came under the ownership of the Texas-based Landry’s Inc. in 2011.
Currently, the only Boathouse restaurant that remains operating in the Lower Mainland is in New Westminster.
