Major League Baseball might be one step closer to coming to Vancouver, according to Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith.
In a X post on Wednesday, July 29, Nicholson-Smith said “the City of Vancouver has chosen a prospective owner to pursue an MLB expansion franchise.”

The ownership group selected is The Show Vancouver Bid Corporation, who, according to its website, say it’s a “once-in-a-generation opportunity to bring Major League Baseball” to Vancouver.
The corporation has a list of over 50 names who have come forward to support bringing an MLB team to Vancouver. The list includes retired MLB players Justin Morneau (New Westminster) and Jeff Francis (Delta), former BC Lions head coach Wally Buono, CEO of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee John Furlong, former B.C. Premier Christy Clark and Lululemon founder Chip Wilson.
“This is a city with the passion, diversity, and global profile to support a team for generations to come,” stated the corporation’s website.
“An MLB team would be a long-term investment in Metro Vancouver’s future, creating jobs and driving tourism and economic activity.”
