A Langley City Councillor who dropped an F-bomb while another councillor was speaking during a public meeting on Monday has issued an apology.
Paul Albrecht, who was recorded on video saying “you’re a f____” while Delaney Mack was speaking, released a written statement Tuesday.
“During the July 27, 2026, City Council meeting, in a moment of extreme frustration, I made a disrespectful comment that I should never have made,” Albrecht said.
“I regret saying these words. I apologize to Councillor Mack, all of Council, those in attendance at the meeting and the community as a whole.”
Mack told the Langley Advance Times the comment came during a debate over what she described as a “very costly multi-use pathway and bike lane.”
“I was not talking about any member of council, I was literally just speaking for the voters and explaining my rationale for my vote, and while I was in the midst of talking, he jumped in and said effing, and then I stopped talking.”
“I was quite frankly taken aback and also very frustrated and hurt,” said Mack.
Albrecht was attending the meeting via remote video link.
“I think at that moment he realized that he was not on mute,” Mack said.
Mayor Nathan Pachal interjected, telling Albrecht the remark was “completely out of line” then asked Mack “are you okay to continue?”
She said yes.
“It’s not the first time that I’ve been treated poorly, it’s not the second time, it’s not the third, fourth, fifth, or fifteenth time that I’ve been treated poorly by these people,” commented Mack. “It’s just that it’s happened in the public now.”
Mack has made Code of Conduct complaints against Albrecht and Coun. Rosemary Wallace, neither of which were upheld.
Mack has also gone to court over a code of conduct complaint that was upheld against her, filed by Teri James. She made a code of conduct complaint against James, but Mayor Pachal ruled an investigation was unnecessary.
She said she does not intend to file a code complaint about the F-bomb incident, saying “I’m not going to waste my time with that process again.”
As the Monday council meeting was drawing to a close, Albrecht said he wanted to apologize to all members of council, and staff.
“I’m remote right now. Somebody came in and interrupted me and I didn’t know I hadn’t been put on mute,” Albrecht said.
“I’m embarrassed and sorry and I will be more diligent.”
Mack said “I’m glad that some of this behaviour is coming out in public now.”
In his written statement the next day, Albrecht called his comment “disrespectful” and said as someone elected to public office, “I hold myself to a high standard, which I did not meet during that meeting. I will be reaching out to each member of Council over the coming week to offer to work through a restorative justice process to address my conduct to a constructive resolution, at my own expense.”
