Police seized a man’s cash, vehicle, drugs and rifle scope after a search of his vehicle earlier this year.
According to a news release from Mission RCMP on Tuesday, July 21, the matter was referred to the Civil Forfeiture Office of British Columbia, who accepted the man’s 2011 Kia Soul and cash for forfeiture.
The Mission detachment’s crime reduction unit was checking on the house of “a known offender linked to violent crimes and the drug trade” on Feb. 13 when they saw another car leaving the residence.
Conducting a database search, police confirmed the driver had been found in possession of cash and drugs after traffic stop in Maple Ridge a couple weeks earlier, explained Cpl. Harrison Mohr.
Mission officers followed that same vehicle, pulled it over and conducted a search a short time later. Due to the driver’s history and visible items inside the vehicle that posed “a potential risk to public safety,” the corporal explained how offers searched the Kia.
A rifle scope, cash, and a quantity of Fentanyl consistent with drug trafficking were found inside the car and seized.
“Anyone who uses their vehicle, residence, or other property to commit crimes, or who obtains cash or property as a result of crimes they commit, should be aware that they risk those items being seized and forfeited, even if no criminal charges are laid,” Mohr said.
