A man wanted for a 2022 murder in Quebec was arrested in B.C. after police searched a home in Burnaby.
Lee Van Smat Germain was wanted on an outstanding warrant in connection with the May 11, 2022 homicide of Sébastien Giroux in Montréal, a July 21 release from B.C.’s Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit says.
He was one of three people charged in connection with Giroux’s death on Jan. 22, 2026, police said. The other two were arrested at the time, but Germain remained at large.
In January, Service de police de la Ville de Montréal investigators determined that Germain had ties to B.C. and requested help from the province’s anti-gang police, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, and the Metro Vancouver Transit Police.
On July 15, police said, officers searched a home in Burnaby where Germain was found and arrested “without incident.”
Police said he was then transported to the Burnaby RCMP detachment where he appeared before a judge and was remanded into custody for six days pending his return to Quebec to face the outstanding murder charge.
