Parts of B.C.’s North and Central coasts are under a heat warning until Wednesday, Environment Canada says.
The yellow warning was issued Monday (July 20) for Terrace, Kitimat and Bella Coola, with a high forecast confidence. The warning is in effect until Wednesday, and will then be followed by a cooling trend.
Environment Canada says a ridge of high pressure will bring high temperatures to the region, with daytime highs expected in the low 30s and overnight lows in the mid-teens.
The warning adds that heat effects everyone, but the risks are greater for seniors, people who live along, people with pre-existing health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease or respiratory disease, people with mental illness such as schizophrenia, depression, or anxiety, people with substance use disorders, people with limited mobility.
Environment Canada is reminding people to keep their homes cool, which can be done by turning on air conditioning, if possible, blocking the sun by closing curtains or blinds or relocating to a cooler location such as a basemen or public cooling centre.
