National Drowning Prevention week begins July 19 and there will be a variety of free pop-up events around Maple Ridge.
On Sunday, July 19, there will be a presentation entitled Fatal and Non-fatal drowning prevention from noon to 3 p.m. at the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre, at 11925 Haney Place.
Swimming in Open Water is the title of a presentation from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, July 20, at Whonnock Lake, at 27871 113 Avenue.
A presentation on pool safety will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, at the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre.
On Wednesday, July 22 the topic will be Swim to Survive from 1-3 p.m. at the leisure centre.
Hammond Outdoor Pool will host a presentation on adult supervision from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, at 20601 Westfield Avenue.
Greg Moore Youth Centre will have a presentation on substance use from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, July 24, at 11925 Haney Place.
Then on Saturday, July 25, a presentation on boat safety and personal floatation devices will take place from 1-4 p.m. at Alouette Lake South Beach in Golden Ears Provincial Park.
