Morningstar Field in Maple Ridge open after synthetic infill replaced

A project to replace the infill in synthetic tuft fields across the city is currently underway.

As of Monday, July 13, Morningstar Field, the field located by the skate park at Telosky Stadium is now open for use after all the pellets between the synthetic grass blades on the field were replaced with a recycled crumb rubber infill.

The green plastic pellets or Thermo-Plastic Elastomer infill needed to be replaced due to deficiencies in the product.

The new infill has been used at the Karina LeBlanc Field and most other synthetic turf fields in the region, said the city online.

According to public health authorities, explained the city, there are no known increased health risks associated with playing on fields that use crumb rubber infill.

Starting July 13, Golden Ears Field, across from Telosky Stadium by the Arthur Peake Centre, will be closed for around six to eight weeks, for the infill replacement project, depending on weather conditions.

Polygon Field, located beside Lougheed Highway, is expected to be closed in August.

The old infill being removed from the fields will be sent to a recycling facility.

The city noted the work is being carried out under warranty by the supplier at no cost to the city.

Samuel Robertson Technical Field was completed at the end of of 2025.

During the closures, Karina LeBlanc Field, Westview Secondary’s synthetic turf field, and all City grass fields will remain open for public use and scheduled sports activities.
