Maple Ridge Burrards felled the Nanaimo Timbermen Saturday evening in a decisive victory that added another game to the team’s winning steak.
During Western Lacrosse Association action, the Burrards beat the Timbermen by a score of 10-4 at the Frank Crane Arena, on the Timbermen’s home turf.
“It was a good game,” said Burrards general manager Lance Andre, giving credit to his “left handed, old guy” Riley Loewen who scored five of the 10 goals in the game, in addition to one assist, to take the first star.
“He had an outstanding game,” said Andre.
And, he added, goaltender Brandon Humphry saved 50 shots against him to be named the game’s second star.
Tyler Pace of the Burrards received the third star, with one goal and three assists.
On Tuesday, the team will be back at Planet Ice in the Cam Neely Arena, squaring off against the New Westminster Salmonbellies, hoping to increase their winning streak to four games.
“I think it’s a pretty evenly matched game,” Andre said.
He noted there might be some “physicalities” that happened at the end of the last game against the Salmonbellies, which, could carry over into this game.
But, they are ready for the match, he added.
There are only four more games to go until the end of the regular season: two more against the Salmonbellies, one against Langley, and one against Coquitlam.
The playoffs will start Tuesday, Aug. 4.
It would be a tough road, at this point, to get into first place before the regular season ends, said Andre.
In order for that to happen, he said, the Victoria Shamrocks would have to lose three of the four remaining games, while the Burrards would have to win all four of their games.
Andre said the team is aiming to secure second place.
“I think the team’s gelling, I think we are playing well, our two goaltenders are both playing well, and it’ll be interesting times going into the playoffs,” he added.
