Murder charge laid after motor vehicle incident in Vanderhoof

A man has been charged with second-degree murder following a motor vehicle incident that triggered a shelter-in-place order in Vanderhoof on July 9.

Keegan Donald Leigh, 39, was charged on July 10, Prince George RCMP said in a release.

Police responded to the incident in the 1500 block of Loop Road, where they located a deceased man.

Investigators say they believe it to be an isolated incident, with the accused and the victim, 38, known to each other.

Police say Leigh will remain in custody until his next court appearance.

The shelter-in-place order was issued for Vanderhoof at 2:25 p.m on Thursday as RCMP responded to the crash.

The order was quickly lifted.

“Police are still looking to speak with anyone that may have dash camera footage or video surveillance that captured the incident,” said Cpl. Ryan Buchanan of the Major Crime Unit. “You can contact our Major Crime Unit by calling 604-355-1867.”

RCMP said it would release no further information about the incident, as it is now before the courts.
