A Maple Ridge RCMP officer has recognized for his international work with police offices.
Sgt. Daniel Rettenbacher has been awarded the Order of Merit of the Police Forces in recognition of his significant contributions to policing and public service in Canada. Rettenbacher received the prestigious award at the Governor General of Canada’s official investiture ceremony on May 14 at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.
Established in 2000, the Order of Merit of the Police Forces honours the leadership and exceptional service, or distinctive merit, displayed by police officers, and recognizes their commitment to Canada.
Sgt. Rettenbacher has demonstrated exceptional leadership, professionalism, and dedication throughout his policing career, which spans more than two decades, said an announcement from his detachment. His service has included international policing deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq, and most recently Ukraine.
“Sergeant Rettenbacher’s dedication to public service and his willingness to serve Canada both at home and abroad exemplify the core values of the RCMP,” said Maple Ridge RCMP Officer in Charge, Supt. Martin Guay. “His contributions have made a lasting impact, and we are proud to see him recognized with this prestigious honour.”
While appreciative and humbled by this most recent recognition, Sgt. Rettenbacher took the time to reflect on his international experience.
“When I joined the RCMP in 2000, one of my goals was to represent Canada overseas. I did not expect to do this three times,” he said. “Being able to share our training and professionalism with police officers serving in countries impacted by conflict or war has been the most rewarding part of my career.”
