Maple Ridge Concert Band offers Twilight Concert Series downtown

The Maple Ridge Concert Band started its Twilight Concerts Pops in the Park Series and celebrated the band’s 80th anniversary on Tuesday night, July 7.

Conductor Dr. John van Deursen led the award-winning band through numerous pieces through the evening, and band manager Gale Yip told the audience of more than 100 in Memorial Peace Park a little bit about the band’s history – like that the group had built the bandstand where their performance was taking place. The well-used facility was completed in 1994, and donated to the city.

There was even a birthday cake that was enjoyed by those attending.

Twilight Tuesdays – Pops in the Park offers performances on Tuesdays this month – with July 14, 21 and 28 still to come, starting at 7:30 p.m., and lasting about two hours, at Memorial Peace Park (11930 224 St.). The concert band plays marches, classical pieces, broadway hits, pop songs and more.

Some folding chairs are provided, and those attending are invited to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets. There are also food trucks offering some refreshments.
