Surrey firefighters battle large house fire Wednesday night

Surrey Fire Service crews fought a sizable house fire Wednesday night in a neighbourhood close to Bear Creek Park.

Around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday (July 8), firefighters responded to a house fire in the 9000-block of Edinburgh Place.

Firefighters arrived to flames shooting out of all sides of the house, and there were reports of fireworks going off in the garage as well, a freelance photographer at the scene noted.

Due to the size and extent of the fire, crews had to reportedly fight the fire defensively from the outside and protect the nearby homes.

Around 20 firefighters responded to the incident, which was brought under control within an hour, the photographer said.

No word on any injuries; the cause of the fire is under investigation.
