The Brunswick Creek wildfire, burning along the Fraser Canyon has grown to an estimated 1,800 hectares as of July 7.

On the east side of the Fraser River across from the Brunswick Creek wildfire, the Ainslie Creek blaze has grown to 695 hectares since sparking on July 4.

At 3 p.m. on Tuesday, the Fraser Valley Regional District issued another evacuation alert for more than 35 properties within the regional district electoral areas.

There are currently four evacuation orders and two evacuation alerts associated with what BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is calling the Brunswick complex.

For more information about evacuation alerts and orders, including the properties affected, visit the Fraser Valley Regional District Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) webpage.

The Boothroyd Indian Band has also issued an evacuation order its community north of Boston Bar.

Highway 1 is closed at Boston Bar due to the fires. For the most up to date information, visit DriveBC.

An incident management team has been assigned to the Brunswick complex along with 160 firefighters, 12 helicopters, including two night-vision-equipped helicopter groups, 23 pieces of heavy equipment and 58 structure protection personnel.

According to BCWS hot, dry weather and windy conditions elevated fire behaviour and its growth on Tuesday.

“Wind and elevated fire behaviour are anticipated into this evening. Growth was mainly to the north and east based on prevailing winds,” BCWS stated.

While cooler temperatures are forecast for the end of the week, Environment Canada is not anticipating any rain.

Smoke from the Brunswick complex has caused an air quality warning for the Chilcotin region, including Ashcroft, 70 Mile House and Kamloops.

Residents in Kamloops are reporting hazy skies, reduced visibility and heavy smoke.

Environment Canada is asking those living in the Chilcotin and Kamloops area to postpone or reduce strenuous outdoor activities until the warning ends.

The Brunswick complex wildfires are suspected to be human caused.
