75-year-old in critical condition, attacked Canada Day in Langley

A 75-year-old is in critical condition after being attacked downtown on Canada Day.

At approximately 9:48 p.m., Langley RCMP received reports of a man in distress near Park Avenue and Douglas Crescent.

Frontline officers, along with paramedics from the British Columbia Ambulance Service and firefighters from the Langley Fire Rescue Service, responded to the area and located a 75-year-old Langley resident suffering from serious injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

“Investigators have reviewed video surveillance from the area and believe victim’s injuries may be the result of an assault,” said Const. Peter Mann, of the Langley RCMP. “Officers believe there were additional people in the area who may have witnessed the incident, and we are asking those individuals to come forward and speak with investigators.”

Police had not been able to speak with the victim as of the afternoon of July 2.

“It is believed the assault took place at the location he was found,” Mann said.

Langley RCMP is asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, or who may have dash camera or CCTV footage from the surrounding area between 9:30 p.m. and 10:15 p.m., to contact police.
