B.C. rock band revives 2000s hits with 25th-anniversary show in Abbotsford

It’s been a long time since Default has put out a new album, but the popular B.C. band is preparing to give Canadian audiences another taste of the hits they’ve already pumped out since first forming in 1999.

The group’s debut album, The Fallout, was released nearly 25 years ago and included some of the band’s biggest hits.

To celebrate this milestone, the band has announced a 25th-anniversary tour, which includes a stop in Abbotsford later this year.

The four-piece Vancouver group rose to international fame with their track Wasting My Time, but then temporarily disbanded in 2013.

During this initial run, they were nominated for two Juno Awards and even won the 2002 award for best new group.

They then reformed in 2018 and have conducted a series of tours since then, but have yet to release a new album since their 2009 album Comes and Goes.

Default is fronted by Dallas Smith, who has gone on to create a successful career as a country music artist.

As part of his solo career, Smith has racked up many accolades, including 50 nominations at the Canadian Country Music Awards and two Juno nominations.

Also part of the band is bassist Dave Benedict, who has been an Abbotsford resident for years and hasn’t played in the city since Animals nightclub shut down.

Fans of Default will be able to relive the band’s collection of nostalgic hits this fall, with the group playing Abbotsford Arts Centre on Oct. 4.

Opening for Default will be fellow Juno-nominated band Wide Mouth Mason, who have been around since 1995.

Wide Mouth Mason is also responsible for some notable tracks, including My Old Self and Midnight Rain, both of which are from their 1997 eponymous album and have garnered over one million streams.
