Maple Ridge band up for Fraser Valley Music Award

A band from Maple Ridge is a nominee for the Fraser Valley Music Awards.

Quickness has been nominated for the Punk/Metal Artist of the Year.

Head by vocalist Jacob Dryden, who lives in Maple Ridge, the band plays across the Fraser Valley at various breweries, night clubs, and festivals.

According to Dryden, Quickness is known for their “legendary live performances.”

”One minute you’re bouncing to a punk rock song shouting choruses, the next they’re breaking it down with an acoustic guitar, dancing under the sun to a reggae groove and everyone’s singing,” he said on the website for the awards.

Quickness are the recipients of six international radio awards and several editorial top ten album nominations.

They have released three full-length albums, several music videos, and have performed around 800 across Canada since their inception in 2009.

Their single “Daydream” premiered on January 20, 2022, on 102.7 The Peak in Vancouver, “Sleepless Nights”, released in June of last year.

Quickness are well known for doing both original music and cover songs by their favourite artists.

The Fraser Valley Music Award winners will be announced during the Jam in Jubilee, downtown Abbotsford, Wednesday, July 16.

Including Maple Ridge, there are 40 nominees from across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley including: Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission, Langley, Surrey, White Rock, Coquitlam, Delta, New Westminster, and Vancouver.

Alongside the juried award categories, fans can participate in the Dakota Leslie Memorial Fan Vote, which will remain open until noon on Tuesday, July 15.

Here fans can vote to distribute the prize pool of $10,170, with every vote directly influencing how much funding each artist receives.

The Fraser Valley Music Awards are presented by CIVL Radio, and celebrate and support independent musicians throughout the Fraser Valley and surrounding region.

Since being launched in 2016, the awards program has distributed more than $80,000 directly to artists while helping connect local musicians with new audiences, industry opportunities, and regional recognition.
