Viewing party in Maple Ridge for critical World Cup match today

Maple Ridge soccer fans will come together in front of a big screen for a huge game, as Canada takes on Switzerland at the FIFA World Cup.

The City of Maple Ridge’s third Game On! viewing party is happening from noon to 4 p.m. today (June 24) in Memorial Peace Park (11930 224th St.) with a 20-foot screen, and hundreds of fans decked out in their Team Canada kit, and some literally wrapped in the Maple Leaf flag.

Switzerland has been ranked higher, 19th to Canada’s 30th, but Canada is playing at home, and coming off an inspirational 6-0 win over Qatar – its first at the World Cup.

Both teams come into the game with a win and a tie, and both have a shot at finishing first in the group.

The viewing parties in Maple Ridge have been drawing hundreds of appreciative fans, and there are games and activities for kids, food trucks, live music and more.
