A man has been arrested after allegedly bear-spraying cricketers and breaking the arm of a player in Vancouver, police say.
The department is investigating the alleged assault that took place at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 20 at Connaught Park in Kitsilano where a 45-year-old man allegedly bear sprayer a group of cricket players and broke the arm of one.
Police say a game was underway when the suspect allegedly walked across the pitch and “repeatedly interrupted the play.” He was asked by players and spectators to leave “at which point the suspect allegedly became aggressive, shouting and swearing,” a news release Monday says.
The suspect is alleged to have punched a 37-year-old player and bear-sprayed five others before fleeing the park.
Police say that players followed him and the suspect allegedly turned around several times, continuing to bear spray them.
The suspect then allegedly punched the 37-year-old again and tackled him to the ground, breaking the player’s arm. The victim was treated in hospital.
Multiple witnesses called police.
The suspect was taken into custody and later released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
Police are still investigating.
