A cut above the rest: Kelowna barber shop helps senior after wheelchair breaks

A Kelowna barbershop put down their scissors to help a man in need on Wednesday, June 17.

Raman Sharma was sitting at HighFade Barbershop in Rutland for a haircut when he noticed a number of barbers immediately stop what they were doing to help a man in a wheelchair whose tire had fallen off outside the store.

Sharma tells Black Press Media the interaction between strangers was a friendly reminder that there are still good people in the world who do good things for others.

“Moments like this remind me that real humanity still exists. In a world where we often hear negative things, it’s acts like these that quietly restore your faith in people,” said Sharma on a Facebook post.

“Big respect to everyone at HighFade Barbers today. You didn’t just help someone, you showed what community truly means.”

Sharma says it was a really cool experience to see the barbers spring into action, even if it meant he had to wait a little longer to get his hair cut.

Ajay Bawa, the owner of HighFade Barbershop in Rutland, was just happy his customers understood the situation and were happy to see the man get the help he needed.

“We were really busy at the time, so I asked my customers if it would be OK if they could wait for five minutes. They said yes and told us to go and help the man, so me and some other colleagues helped him, which was pretty sweet,” said Bawa.

The barbers used their hands and some tools to get the rubber tire back on the wheelchair before sending the man on his way with a smile.

Bawa hopes this small act of kindness influences others to pay it forward.
