Antique aircraft and the latest in aviation technology on display for Airport day in Pitt Meadows

Antique aircraft to the latest in aviation technology will be on display at Pitt Meadows Regional Airport, YPK, for the annual Airport Day.

Around 20 general aviation and commercial aircraft will be on display for enthusiasts to check out, in addition to a market, a Kids Zone, food vendors and a beer garden.

Entrance is free to Airport Day, hosted on the third Saturday in June every year, but donations are being accepted upon entry for the British Columbia Aviation Council’s Gateway to Education Scholarship program, to support the next generation with opportunities throughout the aviation industry.

“These scholarships are applied for by those interested in aviation through the BC Aviation Council- Silver Wings Awards,” explained Amanda Zannet, administration manager at YPK.

Vancouver Party Works has partially sponsored the Kids Zone providing a multitude of inflatable and interactive games for children to take part in.

There will be fun for everyone from toddler to pre-teen.

The Collective Markets will have at least 50 vendors at the event selling locally handmade items and services.

Live music will be provided by the Undercover Band.

There will be 12 food vendors on site, in addition to a beer garden.

Doors will be open at 11 a.m. sharp and the event will go until 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, at YPK, 18799 Airport Way, Pitt Meadows.

There will be limited on-site parking so, organizers are encouraging people to carpool, walk, or ride their bikes and scooters.

YPK will have on-site bike and scooter valet parking at the main event entrance.

This year there will be an accessible parking area available within the terminal parking lot following the airport’s main entrance.

Those who would like to use this lot must have their accessible pass displayed in their front window for volunteers to assist them.

All other public parking will be located within the overflow lot off Baynes Road, as will be indicated by event signage.

“As we look to the future weather forecast, we’d like to note that the event is hosted outside on our tarmac and can get quite hot. So please ensure you come with hats, sunscreen and if it’s too hot, be mindful of your furry friends and their paws,” advised Zannet.

“We are excited to invite our communities once again for another fantastic year, learning about all things aviation!” she added.
