WORLD CUP DAILY, June 17: Stars shine for France, Argentina and Norway; England vs. Croatia today

Favoured France booted their way to a 3-1 win over Senegal in the first of four World Cup matches Tuesday (June 16), a day when soccer superstars came to play.

Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland and Lionel Messi all had multi-goal games on Day 6 of the tournament.

In Group I action, Mbappe scored twice for France in New York, where Bradley Barcola added a third for the winners and Ibrahim Mbaye netted Senegal’s lone goal.

Mbappe now has 14 World Cup goals for France, 58 total, including two on Tuesday.

In Boston, Norwegian hero Haaland scored twice in the first half against Iraq, 4-1 losers to the Scandinavian squad.

Argentina clean-sheeted Algeria 3-0 in Kansas City thanks to Messi’s three goals, which give him a record-tying 16 in World Cup games over his past six tournaments, dating back to 2006 in Germany.

Tuesday’s late game saw Austria and Jordan play in San Francisco.

Wednesday’s four matches (June 17) feature Portugal vs. Congo in Houston (10 a.m. start Pacific time), followed by England vs. Croatia in Dallas (1 p.m.), Ghana vs. Panama in Toronto (4 p.m.) and Uzbekistan vs. Colombia in Mexico City (7 p.m.), all shown live on TSN.
