Soccer party coming up Thursday in downtown Maple Ridge

Maple Ridge did indeed have the big screen and big energy touted by City Hall at its first Game On FIFA World Cup party, and another is coming up.

There were big crowds in Memorial Peace Park for Team Canada’s opener on Friday, June 12, and most of them were wearing Team Canada gear or dressed in their patriotic best.

There will be another viewing party coming up on Thursday, June 18 as Canada takes on Qatar. The event will run from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Memorial Peace Park, with the game scheduled for 3 p.m.

Both teams earned a tie in their first game of the tournament.

There are soccer games and activities for kids, food trucks and local vendors, and entertainment. People are invited to bring a chair or blanket and get a spot in the park in front of the 20-foot screen.
