A pair of Maple Ridge siblings won medals in a junior golf tournament in Pitt Meadows on Sunday, June 7.
A solid field of 64 four young golfers aged 12 and under teed it up on the Golden Eagle Golf Club as the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s number one-played junior golf tour, continued its Mini Tour season in British Columbia.
Kaiwen Jiang, 12, shot 75 on a par 70 to finish third in the boys 11-12 division. He shot birdies on the 11th and 17 holes to finish near the top of a large field of 26 competitors in his class.
His little sister Kaiqi Jiang, 8, shot an 87 to place second in the girls eight and under division.
Set against a backdrop of mountain views and natural wetlands, the Pitt Meadows layout provided an ideal stage for the province’s next generation of golfers to showcase their skills. Competing across six divisions, athletes battled for custom medals, exceptional prizing, and qualifying opportunities into the MJT Mini Tour Nationals.
The next MJT Mini Tour event in the province is the special two-day MJT Harry White Little Masters at Tsawwassen Springs, on June 28-29. The eligible boy and girl ages 11-12 will win exemptions into the MJT’s Junior Tour National Championship in Florida.
