Surrey firefighters saved a small cat from a burning two-storey home on Tuesday morning (June 9).
Emergency services responded to a call of a house fire in the 13400-block of 98 Avenue around 10:30 a.m., Surrey Fire Assistant Chief Mike McNamara said. The fire appeared to have started in the garage but was spreading quickly into the attic.
A second alarm was called, which brought in about 24 firefighters on seven firefighting vehicles. All eight occupants of the home made it out safely, including a cat, who was treated at the scene with “oxygen and comfort,” a Black Press freelancer at the scene said.
McNamara said the cat appeared to be doing “fine” and was transported by Animal Services for further medical assessment.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
