A new executive director has been named for Arts On Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows.
Daunia Del Ben was selected through an extensive Canada-wide search and will succeed Curtis Pendleton, who served as artistic and executive director for the past eight years.
Del Ben has extensive experience in arts leadership, cultural programming, and community engagement.
She has worked with municipalities, non-profit organizations, schools, artists, and audiences across Alberta, developing and
delivering performing arts, theatre seasons, festivals, exhibitions, educational initiatives, artist-in-residence programs, and community events that have expanded access to the arts and strengthened community connections.
“The Arts On board of directors is pleased to welcome Ms. Del Ben,” said Sharen Sandhu, president of the Arts On board of directors.
“Her experience in arts programming and administration will play a key role in supporting local artists and organizations, expanding access to diverse artistic experiences, and contributing to the vitality of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows,” added Sandhu.
Del Ben is also a playwright and actor who understands firsthand the opportunities and challenges facing artists and arts organizations.
She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Alberta, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Communication from universities in Trieste, Italy, and Lyon, France.
She has also received certifications in event planning, human resources, and improvisational theatre.
Del Ben brings a blend of creative vision, strategic leadership, and collaborative relationship-building that will support Arts On’s continued growth and impact in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, added Sandhu.
She is passionate about supporting local artists, increasing community participation in the arts, and fostering vibrant, inclusive cultural experiences.
Del Ben enjoys working with others and using “the amazing power of the arts” to bring communities together.
She is looking forward to working with the Arts On board and staff, local arts organizations, and the parks, recreation, and culture departments of both cities to grow the arts and serve residents through a model of collaboration, joint planning, and collective action.
Del Ben will begin her duties later in June.
