Record times and personal bests at Haney Neptunes swim meet in Maple Ridge

The Haney Neptunes hosted their annual swim meet at the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre over the weekend of May 30 and 31, with 10 clubs and 440 athletes taking part.

The Neptunes themselves had a record high attendance, with 87 of the club’s swimmers participating. As a team, they placed second overall by scoring 1,194 points for their swimmers’ finishes.

The team also broke some records:

• Alex Penev, Div. 4 Boys – 200 Individual Medley (2:29:07), posted the fastest time in the province for this age category.

• Angelina Kozeratskyi, Div. 6 Girls – 50 free (28.4); 100 fly (1:09:23); 50 fly (30.27); 100 free (1:02:11)

• Coach Keenan Div. 8 Boys – 50 free (25.04); 200 IM (2:06:21);

• Coach Preston Div. 8 Boys – 100 fly (56.13)

• Coach Jimmy Div. 8 Boys – 50 fly (26.15); 100 back (59.91)

Cassandra Munroe, the club’s director of swimming, noted some other achievements to celebrate by newer swimmers:

Delilah Ellis and Brooke Davidson, 6 and under swimmers, swam their first races as division 1 girls, completing full distances by themselves.

Blakely Ellis, Anora Cooke, Charlie Mortimer are all division 1 swimmers, who “crushed their goal of no disqualifications throughout the entire weekend.”

Munroe also gave shout-outs to “Sophie Denton for amazing technique improvements in all strokes and racing her first ever 100 IM,” and to Valerie Sabijon for placed third in 50m breast.

Avalynn Phillip, Finley Fulger, Kaitlyn-May Jacquemin, Emily-Rose Jacquemin, Julien Precourt, Lucas Hassan who competed in their very first swim meet.

Olivia Gusan placed first in Div 2 girls 50m fly and this was only her second ever swim meet.

Caleb DeBoer had five personal bests, and a four second drop in time for the 100m breast.

Rebecca Jeang had four personal bests, and Noah Leeman got his first PB in 100m breast in over a year.

“It has been amazing to see everyone’s progress so far, and we are excited to continue building on that momentum throughout the summer season,” said Munroe.
