A body found in the Fraser River over the weekend is that of a person who was reported to have fallen into the river on April 27 at the Port Haney Wharf.
Police responded to a call at about 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, May 31, after a body could be seen in the river near the Katzie First Nation lands, just east of the south end of Bonson Road.
With the help of New Westminster Police Service and Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue, Maple Ridge RCMP was able to recover the body from the water.
Upon identification of the deceased person, officers confirmed it was the same individual from the incident at the end of April.
First responders were first called to the Port Haney Wharf, in the 22400 block of River Road, at around 10:35 a.m. on Monday, April 27, after a report that somebody was in the Fraser River.
When first responders arrived, they learned that an adult male may have fallen into the water.
Police closed down pedestrian access to the wharf, and began searching with flashlights, trying to see under the wharf and looking through the cracks in the wharf.
Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue responded from the water with two boats.
BC RCMP Air Services had a police helicopter circling the area and Search and Rescue travelled several kilometres downstream from where the incident took place but couldn’t find anything.
A blue bicycle and garbage bag filled with items could be seen on the wharf near where first responders were searching for the person.
Police say no foul play is suspected at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
Out of respect for the family’s privacy, the deceased person’s name is not being released, said RCMP.
