Maple Ridge Burrards start season with four straight wins, top WLA

The Maple Ridge Burrards are on top of the Western Lacrosse Association standings with a 4-0 start to the season.

The Burrards were in Nanaimo on Saturday, May 30, and they beat the Timbermen 13-8. The next night Ridge hosted the Coquitlam Adanacs – the top team during the regular season in 2025 – and outlasted them 5-3.

In Nanaimo it was Tyler Pace, who is looking like a huge offseason acquisition, leading the way. He was the game’s first star with seven goals and eight points.

The Timbermen held a 4-3 lead early in the second period, and then Pace scored an inspired five straight goals over an 11-minute stretch as the Burrards took the game over.

Payton Cormier showed his breakout season is for real with three goals and a seven-point effort, which got him named second star. He and Pace lead the league in goals with 13 each.

Last year’s MVP Marcus Klarich also had three goals and seven points, and he leads the WLA in scoring with 27 points.

Rookie goaltender Jack Kask made 41 saves on 49 shots to get the win. He has all four wins, and has been a huge part of the team’s hot start.

His stat line was even more impressive on Sunday at Cam Neely Arena, as he limited the Adanacs to a mere three goals on 42 shots, and was named the first star of the game. He out-dueled Vancouver Warriors NLL star Christian Del-Bianco, who settled for second star, with 39 saves on 44 shots.

The team’s big three on offence led the way again. Klarich and Pace both had a goal and three assists, and Cormier scored a goal and added a helper. Riley Loewen and Declan Fitzpatrick also scored.

The Burrards, who are the league’s only unbeaten team, will host the Timbermen at Cam Neely Arena this Sunday, June 7, at 6:30 p.m.
