Another pedestrian was struck on the Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge on Monday morning, June 1.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., Maple Ridge RCMP responded to a report of a pedestrian motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Lougheed Highway and Laity Street.
Officers on scene learned that a pickup truck travelling eastbound on Lougheed struck a grey four door Mazda traveling northbound on Laity Street.
A pedestrian who was crossing the street in a crosswalk was hit by one of the out-of-control vehicles.
The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, said police.
The drivers of both vehicles were uninjured, and remained on scene.
The eastbound lanes of Lougheed Highway were closed for a short period, but have since been re-opened.
Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
It has been a dangerous stretch of highway for pedestrians.
Mayor Dan Ruimy has asked the province for improved pedestrian safety measures along the Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge, and he noted in February there had been five fatalities between 203 and 222 Streets in the past three years.
Community members called for more enforcement, and police have conducted ticketing and awareness campaigns
