1 dead, multiple shots fired in Surrey

One man is dead after a late night shots fired incident in Surrey.

Surrey Police Service (SPS) reports that officers responded to calls of a shooting in the area of 138 St and 62 Ave in South Newton at 12:22 a.m. on May 31.

Upon arrival, SPS says that officers located one man in a vehicle that had hit a series of other vehicles as well as a power pole and was suffering from gunshot wounds.

A freelance reporter for Black Press Media reports that the hitting of the power pole caused a small power outage in the area.

He also states that BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) and Surrey Fire were also on scene with SPS.

SPS says officers provided medical assistance to the shot individual until BCEHS arrived. Despite life saving efforts by police and paramedics, the man was pronounced dead on scene.

No arrests have been made and SPS says that at this early stage there is no suspect information to be shared.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has now taken over the investigation and is being supported by SPS to complete priority investigative tasks.

Anyone with information is asked to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.

As IHIT is now the lead investigative agency, any inquiries should be directed to IHIT.
