An art exhibition featuring the talents of emerging young artists in the school district is coming to The ACT Art Gallery.
Next Generation: Art by SD42 Secondary Students is a biannual exhibition with more than 100 pieces submitted by the art students.
The exhibition will feature a wide range of artistic mediums, including: painting, drawing, digital illustration, photography, ceramics, sculpture, fibre art, woodwork, and mixed media.
Developed in collaboration with visual arts teachers in the school district, the exhibition supports students in their creation of original artworks for a large group exhibition and highlights the talent of emerging youth artists in the community, explained the City of Maple Ridge, which runs The ACT Arts Centre.
“I always look forward to the SD42 exhibition,” said gallery manager and curator Courtney Miller. “The students put so much time and care into their artworks, and the SD42 teachers provide generous support to make the exhibition come to life.”
Many of the students who submit artwork to the exhibition are preparing for post-secondary programs and careers in creative fields.
It is an opportunity for students to showcase their artwork in a professional space.
Participating schools this year are: Garibaldi Secondary, Maple Ridge Secondary, Maple Ridge Christian, Pitt Meadows Secondary, Samuel Robertson Technical, Thomas Haney Secondary, and Westview Secondary.
A free opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 30 from noon until 4 p.m.
The exhibit runs until Saturday, June 20.
Regular gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Tuesday to Saturday, and selected evenings.
The ACT Art Gallery is located at 11944 Haney Place, Maple Ridge.
