West Kelowna RCMP are seeking information regarding a 24-year-old aggravated sexual assault case after “advancements in investigative techniques” have helped officers revisit the incident.

Back on Dec. 27, 2002, the police were notified of an aggravated sexual assault involving a 19-year-old woman from Australia who was working at Big White Ski Resort.

The woman sustained serious injuries while the male suspect fled the scene. He was described as having brown hair and wearing a yellow jacket, or a jacket with yellow on it.

Despite extensive efforts during their investigation, the suspect was never identified.

However, the investigation has remained open for the last 24 years. A recent file review and advances in investigative techniques have led officers to re-examine the case.

“Advancements in investigative techniques have significantly enhanced our ability to revisit and progress historical investigations,” said West Kelowna RCMP media relations officer Const. Ash Puri. “We remain committed to pursuing all available leads, and we are hopeful that someone may come forward with information that could assist in identifying the suspect.”

The RCMP are now asking the public for new information.

“With the passage of time, individuals may recall details differently, or circumstances may have changed, allowing witnesses to come forward,” stated the West Kelowna RCMP release.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880 with file number 2002-58983. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
