Part of Battleford Avenue was shut down on Tuesday afternoon (May 26) as a heavy police response descended on a Saanich property.
Saanich police said in a release that officers were responding to a report of a break and enter just before 11 a.m. in the 100 block of Battleford Avenue.
Officers from the patrol division, the Integrated Canine Service and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) responded and established containment around the home.
“Investigators determined that several individuals had entered the residence and were refusing to leave,” said police. “The incident was subsequently classified as a barricaded subject situation.”
A total of seven people were arrested.
The barricade was resolved at approximately 2:30 p.m., with seven individuals being taken into custody without incident.
Police added that their investigation into the incident is ongoing.
