Maple Ridge salmon group hosts Smolts on the Water open house

An educational open house is coming up this Sunday, May 24, hosted by the Kanaka Education and Environmental Partnership Society (KEEPS).

With a nod to the band Deep Purple, KEEPS will host “Smolts on the Water” at the Kanaka Creek Watershed Stewardship Centre (11484 256th St.) from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Those attending are invited to learn about the needs, dangers, and challenges facing juvenile salmon as they release them to venture down the creek and out to the ocean. They can also find out how we can help them in their perilous journey.

KEEPS is non-profit society that is active in promoting stewardship of the Kanaka Creed watershed. For more information, see keeps.org.
