‘Devastated’ family of B.C. teen on life support thankful for fundraiser in wake of assault

A Chilliwack teen who was the victim of a violent assault Sunday (May 3) is the focus of an online fundraising campaign to help support the devastated family by his side.

Donna Stickley started the GoFundMe account, ‘A Parent’s Worst Nightmare,’ for her friend Amey Pailer whose son Isaac suffered life-threatening injuries in a violent incident that left him on life support.

“He remains in critical condition, and right now, all that matters is being by his side every moment,” Stickley said about the family in need of help. “As you can imagine, this has turned their world upside down.”

The incalculable emotional pain and financial strain is growing and the family has so many expenses for travel, meals, accommodations, and lost income, Stickley wrote.

“We are asking for any support you can give to help ease this burden so they can focus on what truly matters: being there for him.”

Pailer put out a post to say the family was “completely devastated” but wanted to thank the many donors.

The community has been faithfully answering the call to help, with $26,000 raised as of Thursday morning.

“I can’t even believe this is actually happening right now,” she posted. “Thank you from the bottom of my broken heart to whoever can share or donate.”

His loved ones are behind him.

“Isaac is an amazing kid and he does not deserve this pain and suffering. All I can do is pray! He is in the hands of amazing doctors and nurses and he has so many people who love him so much by his side.”

One of the commenters on a post said the young man had been assaulted after trying to help another man who was attacked, and the aggressors had then turned on him.

The Chilliwack RCMP release said the two assaults in the 45000 block of Wells Road occurred at about 2 a.m. on Sunday, May 3 and said they were believed to be related.

“It is alleged that both assaults involved the same suspects, however, the two victims were not known to one another.”

The investigating officers closed off Wells Road for most of Sunday.

Police put out an appeal to the public through the media asking for witnesses, security footage or dash-cam footage to advance the investigation by Serious Crimes Unit officers.
