Artists with diverse abilities prepare for upcoming Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Art Studio Tour

Artists at Vicuna Art Studio are busy preparing for the 26th annual Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Art Studio Tour.

This year, though, they will have their studio open to the public on Friday, May 8, and Saturday May 9, and they won’t be open on Sunday, May 10.

The Art Studio Tour will be taking place 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Saturday and Sunday.

Vicuna is an art studio that delivers programming for artists in the community with diverse abilities.

Robert Dodds is preparing his work for this weekend’s event.

The acrylic artist is known for his careful and thoughtful approach to painting, explained the art studio’s director, Dhanha Shin.

He chooses his own colours to create beautiful works with soft and delicate

tones, said Shin.

And, the director noted that each of his brushstrokes is placed with care – highlighting his attention to detail and love

for creating harmonious designs.

Leigh-Anne Lytle, is another acrylic painter, who specializes in portraying flowers and animals with a sweet and gentle touch, mirroring her own personality.

Lytle infuses her work with emotion by mixing colors directly on the canvas, adding depth and intrigue to each piece, noted Shin.

Vicuña Art Studio is owned and operated by the Ridge Meadows Association for Community Living, and it is a non-profit studio dedicated to nurturing aspiring artists with developmental differences, supporting their creative expression, and honouring their ambitions.

Currently there are 60 talented artists who attend the studio, exploring diverse mediums such as acrylics, watercolours, illustration, and

pottery.

For the Art Studio Tour there will be acrylic and watercolour paintings, illustrations, and pottery sculptures on display.

Guests will be able to purchase original artwork, art cards, lamps, bookmarks, gift tags, and more.

More than 100 pieces will be on display.

There will be artist demonstrations from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and refreshments and washrooms will be available.

The studio is wheelchair accessible.

Vicuna Art Studio is Studio #3 on the Art Studio Tour.

The studio doors will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 8, and Saturday, May 9.

Vicuna is located at unit 1-11491 Kingston St., Maple Ridge.
