Fundraiser for Prince George woman who lost business in devastating fire

After a fire ripped through Northwood Plaza in Prince George, damaging a liquor store, a cannabis shop, a hotel and a pub, the community is gathering around a business owner who was affected by the blaze.

Danielle Collin has operated a small salon in the plaza for the last nine years, however, on April 29 a fire devastated her place of work, leaving her without a way to earn an income.

Barbara Fuhrer, a friend of Collin, has started a GoFundMe to help the business owner, “with the overwhelming task of rebuilding from scratch after losing everything in the fire.”

“While some of her tools and supplies may be salvageable, the reality is that she is now faced with the overwhelming task of finding a new space and covering the costs that come with relocating and setting up again,” said Fuhrer, on a fundraising page.

Fuhrer added that finding suitable commercial space and meeting all the requirements for a salon is not a quick process or inexpensive.

“At this time, there are still many unknowns, including the timeline and outcome of insurance, which can take a while to process. In the meantime, these expenses fall directly on her,” she said.

The GoFundMe is looking to raise $12,000.

As Collin isn’t the only one to have their business impacted by the blaze, the community is hosting a fundraiser on May 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hart Mall to support everyone involved.
