Surrey police hope photo will prompt extortion suspect response

Police in Surrey have released a photo of a foreign national suspected of being involved in the ongoing extortion crisis in the hopes of prompting information about his associates and activities from the public.

Prabhjot Singh, 20, was arrested by SPS in early 2026 and, after police shared information about Singh — who police believe was involved in extortion-related criminal activity — with Canada Border Service Agency, he was removed from Canada, an SPS release notes.

“SPS continues to work with our law enforcement partners with the shared objective of tackling the inter-jurisdictional and national components of extortion,” SPS Chief Constable Norm Lipinski said. “We remain steadfastly committed to our policing colleagues and to our community in combating the extortion crisis.”

SPS is releasing the photo of Singh after determining that disclosure is necessary to assist with ongoing police investigations, the release continued.

SPS hopes the image will prompt additional witnesses, victims, or associates to come forward with relevant information regarding Singh’s activities; any information provided by the public or associates can assist police in gathering information on the people and potential criminal networks involved in violent extortions.

Anyone who has information on Singh as asked to contact SPS’s non-emergency number at 604-599-0502, the Surrey Extortion Tip Line at 236-485-5149, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca if you wish to remain anonymous.

In September 2025, the Surrey Extortion Reward Fund of $250,000 was established to offer individuals with key information the ability to collect a reward if charges and convictions of those responsible for these crimes are secured, the release added.

As of April 27, there were 91 reported extortions, 16 related shots fired, two arsons and 49 victims (27 repeat) so far in Surrey this year.
