The Vancouver Rise FC lost their second match of the season on Saturday (May 2), falling 4-0 to the Montreal Roses.
Montreal hosted the Rise FC in Stade Boréale in Laval, QC.
Roses Lisa Pechersky, formerly of the Rise FC, kicked the ball to a teammate, Elyse Bennett, who headed it in, giving the Roses a lead 12 minutes into the match.
Montreal held on to that lead throughout the game. Tanya Boychuk scored twice, and Noémi Paquin scored. The team held possession for 44 per cent of the game and took 15 shots on goal.
“Rise FC kept looking for a way back into the match, but Roses FC got their fourth of the match after Noémi Paquin won the ball up high and lofted the ball into the Rise FC net. Josie Longhurst came close to getting a consolation goal for Rise FC near the end of the match with a shot from the edge of the box, but it was blocked before it could reach the goal,” read a Rise FC press release Saturday (May 2).
As Vancouver held possession for 56 per cent the match, it took three shots and only one on goal, which was saved.
The Rise FC travel to the nation’s capital to play the Ottawa Rapid FC at 4 p.m. PT on May 6.
Vancouver Rise are part of Canada’s first professional women’s soccer league, the Northern Super League, which debuted in 2025. The other clubs are Calgary Wild FC, Halifax Tides FC, Montréal Roses, Ottawa Rapid FC and AFC Toronto.
