UPDATE: Pedestrian dies after being hit by impaired driver in Abbotsford

A pedestrian has died after being struck by an impaired driver who left the scene of an Abbotsford crash on Friday.

The collision happened around 3:34 p.m. on May 1 at the intersection of Simon Avenue and Emerson Street.

Emergency crews arrived on scene and found the man suffering from life-threatening injuries after being struck by an SUV, Sgt. Paul Walker, media relations officer with Abbotsford Police Department stated in a press release.

“The involved vehicle initially left the scene but returned a short time later. The female driver was arrested at the scene.”

Walker later confirmed the man died of his injuries.

Police said impairment is a factor in this collision and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) was called in to assist.

Simon Avenue between Allwood Street and Gladwin Road, as well as Emerson Street between South Fraser Way and Simon Avenue, were closed while officers investigated.
