Volunteers were piping fresh icing onto chocolate chip cookies on Monday, April 27, the launch day of the Tim Hortons’ Smile Cookie campaign.
This year money raised from local cookie sales will be going to the Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation.
Samara Bunsko and Dana Hammoud, owners of the 20201 Lougheed Hwy. location of Tim Hortons and the location in Pitt Meadows, said they are hoping to sell 6,750 cookies at their Maple Ridge location to raise $13,500 for the foundation, and 3,500 cookies at the Pitt Meadows location to raise $7,000.
Representatives from the City of Maple Ridge, City of Pitt Meadows, Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation board members, including the director and assistant director were on hand at the Maple Ridge location to mark the special day.
Luauna McCartney, executive director at Ridge Meadows Hospital, said the Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation and Tim Hortons have both been amazing supports for the hospital.
“It really helps us buy much needed equipment, do much needed upgrades,” said McCartney, who was helping out on Monday.
Janine Davies, executive director of the hospital foundation noted 100 per cent of the money will be going to the foundation and put towards a couple of big projects including: the renovating of a major space in the hospital, site security and cameras, and equipment.
Money also goes towards general operations to fund the hospital, she said.
Coun. Korleen Carreras with the City of Maple Ridge said she was very excited to be there decorating the cookies.
“I’m grateful for all the work that the volunteers are doing and Tim Hortons’ partnering to sell the cookies so the funds can go to the hospital foundation,” said Carreras.
Bunsko and Hammoud are happy to be able to support the local hospital.
“We live in Maple Ridge, so, we’re a part of this community,” said Bunsko.
Cookies are $2 each and can be ordered by the box.
The campaign runs until Sunday, May 3.
