Every year more than 300 business owners and entrepreneurs clamber to be a part of the Ridge Meadows Home Show.
This year three local businesses are excited not only to be a part of the show, but to introduce to the local community their unique products and services.
Donna Wollf is partial owner of The Bowl Tie, a product invented by Pitt Meadows resident Avram Shaff.
The Bowl Tie is a silicone cover that sits over the bolt covers at the back of the toilet seat where the seat attaches to the bowl and it covers the bolt area, with a splash guard that wraps around the seat connection.
Wollf explained The Bowl Tie stops toilet grime from getting into those hard to clean places.
The product was conceptualized after Shaff cleaned his bathroom in preparation for an upcoming trip and he thought it would be nice not to have to clean it again before he left, or, better yet, not have to clean this area ever again.
“And, because it’s silicone it’s germ resistant, mold and mildew resistant,” she said.
They only launched the product last November and the Ridge Meadows Home Show will be their third trade show.
Wollf said they are really excited to show their product to their home community.
Another Pitt Meadows entrepreneur is Conrad Bewsky who has invented a new caulking gadget that he claims will revolutionize how professionals and do-it-yourselfers apply the material.
Bewsky is the owner of Kleen Finish-Finishing Tools and the revolutionary device is the Kleen-Edge Caulk & Tool.
He said he developed the product to make the job a lot easier.
With the Kleen-Edge tool, you apply caulk and finish it in one clean pass.
You don’t have to use your finger or another instrument to make the caulking look tidy.
And, there are three different nozzles for three different bead sizes, depending on the area that needs to be caulked.
“You don’t have to cut another tube open to get a different bead size. You just change the tip,” explained Bewsky.
The adapter will fit onto many different sizes of caulk tubes as well.
Bewsky will be doing demonstrations at the Home Show and might even hold a caulking competition.
And for the do-it-yourselfer in the family, DIY Training Center, which only opened up in Maple Ridge in November, will also have a booth at the show.
Managing director and co-founder of the centre Jackie White said their first location was opened in Calgary in 2019 and then they expanded to Edmonton in November 2023. But so many people were attending their training courses from the Vancouver area, they thought opening a centre in B.C. was their next logical step and they found a great location this past November in Maple Ridge, said White.
The business is about teaching home owners and do-it-yourselfers how to tackle their own home renovations and home maintenance repairs.
Classes have short, concentrated content, and they are hands-on, with instructors teaching things like dry-walling, plumbing, tiling, flooring, framing, baseboards, deck building, and more.
There are about 35 different topics to choose from.
“You are able to retain and learn so much more than watching a video,” explained White about the classes.
“Just having the tools in your hands make that learning experience so much more beneficial to people,” she said.
At the show they will be highlighting some of their classes with videos for people to see what they are like.
“It’s very hands-on training,” added White.
“You’re doing as you are learning.”
