Two upcoming concerts at Garibaldi Secondary School will have people swaying to the sounds of the jazz and concert band programs.
On Monday, May 11, there will be a special outdoors Summer Send-Off Band Concert featuring all of the school’s band groups – Grade 8 Band; Grade 9 Jr. Band; Grade 10 Band; Sr. Band; Jr. Jazz Band; and Sr. Jazz Band.
The bands will be playing a variety of music and there will be a special massed band finale.
The concert begins at 6 p.m., behind the gym at the back of the school.
People are asked to bring their own chair and blanket. However, extras will be available if needed.
“If weather doesn’t cooperate, the concert will move indoors to the gym,” said Rebekah Bell, head of the music program at Garibaldi.
There will be snacks for sale including: smokies, pop, water, chips, and cotton candy.
Both cash and card will be accepted.
Then on Tuesday, May 12, at 7 p.m., there will be the Senior Showcase Concert.
This concert will be held in the Garibaldi Secondary School’s theatre and will feature the Sr. Concert Band, the Sr. Jazz Band, Vocal Jazz, and small solo and ensemble groups.
“This special evening will also highlight some of our Grade 12 musicians in feature performances,” said Bell.
Admission to both concerts is by donation – cash or card – with money going back into the music program for the students.
