‘Extremely dangerous’: Photos released of Peace Region landslide

Newly released photos are highlighting the scale of a landslide that forced evacuations in Old Fort earlier this week.

An evacuation order was issued for the Old Fort area following a landslide the evening of Monday, April 20. As of Wednesday, April 22, the evacuation order was still in effect, according to EmergencyInfoBC.

The PRRD shared photos of the landslide to their Facebook page on Wednesday evening. The photos were submitted to Alaska Highway Newspaper and originally shared on their own Facebook page.

The regional district said the photos show the “current conditions at the Old Fort landslide.” The pictures were posted by the district at around 6 p.m. Wednesday evening.

“The area remains highly unstable and extremely dangerous. Do not approach or park near the site,” they said, adding the evacuation order was still in effect and there is no safe access to or from the community.

EmergencyInfoBC said Emergency Support Services (ESS) are available for evacuated residents.

“ESS and renewals will be available for evacuated residents at the Pomeroy Sport Centre (2nd Floor, East Lobby) 9324 96 St, Fort St. John on Thursday, April 23. Hours: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.”
