Province claims cash found during accused murderer’s arrest

Police arrived to arrest an accused murderer at a Coquitlam residence in the week before last Christmas, and somebody flung a handgun and a bag of drugs and cash out a window.

The Director of Civil Forfeiture recently filed a claim to keep cash recovered during that arrest of Alan Mohammed Taheri.

Taheri, 31, is charged with second degree murder and indignity to human remains in the 2020 death of Edi Bogere. His body was found in Maple Ridge, in a vacant forested property in the 24500-block of Lougheed Highway on Jan. 11, 2020. Bogere was 24 when he was killed.

The claim is for almost $8,500 found in the bag, which also contained large amounts of illicit drugs, recovered during the arrest in Coquitlam on Dec. 19, 2025.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) and the Emergency Response Team, went to the residence to arrest Taheri. As the tactical team closed in, an unknown person threw the handgun and shopping bag out the window.

The bag contained the money, a plastic bag with almost a pound (427 grams) of methamphetamine, 10 plastic baggies with a combined 271 grams of meth, 41 grams of fentanyl, 53 grams of cocaine, 8 grams of ecstasy pills, 108 grams of tobacco in four sausage-shaped rolls, 10 cel phones, and other items.

The cash was arranged in multiple elastic-bound bundles of $1,000 each – “in a manner not consistent with standard banking practices,” according to the claim. It asserts the money is the “proceeds and an instrument of unlawful activity.”

The claim said the unlawful activities include drug trafficking, money laundering, sending or receiving contraband to a correctional facility, and tax evasion.

“If the money is released to the defendants, it will likely be used for the unlawful activity,” said the claim.

On March 23, the director received a Notice of Dispute to Administrative Forfeiture Proceedings from Anna Taheri, claiming an interest in the money.

The claim notes Alan Taheri has prior convictions for counselling an indictable offence, possession of a weapon, possession of firearms or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, failure to comply with probation order, and breach of a conditional sentence order.

The charges against Taheri have yet to be proven in court.
