A police vehicle was rammed by an alleged car thief in Kamloops early Monday, leading to a road closure of Pacific Way south of Hugh Allen Drive and a damaged cop cruiser.
A press release from the Kamloops RCMP says that at around 4:16 a.m. on Monday, April 20, Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP frontline police responded to a report of a break and enter into a storage compound in Savona, where a travel trailer was hooked up and towed away.
Not long after, officers found the truck and stolen trailer in Kamloops and initiated a traffic stop.
Cpl. Dana Napier, Kamloops RCMP detachment spokesperson, said the driver of the truck and trailer allegedly rammed a police vehicle in an attempt to flee.
“While the police vehicle was damaged, the officer was not injured,” she said.
The truck then crashed into a fence, causing damage. As a result, Napier said, Pacific Way was set to be closed for about another hour Monday morning. The press release was sent just after 8 a.m.
